A unique wedding in South East London
Mairi and Jack’s wedding was an incredible day filled with warmth, character, and a bit of Scottish flair. They chose the iconic Asylum Chapel in South East London for their ceremony—a dream venue for any photographer, with its beautifully worn walls and unique, atmospheric light. As someone who loves photographing natural, documentary-style weddings, I couldn’t have asked for a better setting or a lovelier couple.
Mairi and Jack are wonderfully laid-back, and their wedding day reflected that in the best ways. Mairi’s Scottish heritage was woven into the day, with her father and several guests wearing traditional tartan kilts, and the evening capped off with a lively ceilidh dance that brought everyone together. After the ceremony, the newlyweds shared a confetti moment outside the chapel, surrounded by friends and family enjoying tinnies and snacks—a perfect nod to the relaxed vibe they wanted.
Heading to the Lordship Pub to photograph some fun at the Wedding Party
From there, everyone hopped onto a classic London bus to head to The Lordship Pub for the reception. Mairi and Jack took a detour for some couple portraits around the local area, making the most of the characterful streets of South East London before joining their guests at the pub. The Lordship provided the ideal setting for their intimate celebration, and the atmosphere was buzzing as guests toasted the couple, shared stories, and enjoyed a hearty feast.
One of the sweetest moments was when Jack’s 92-year-old Gran, Margaret, received a birthday shout-out, which added a special touch to the festivities. The speeches that followed were both heartfelt and humorous, bringing everyone together in laughter and a few happy tears.
As the evening rolled on, tables were cleared, and the ceilidh band struck up the tunes. Mairi and Jack kicked off the dancing with a joyful first dance, quickly joined by friends and family in a spirited Scottish celebration. Watching everyone come together like that was a wonderful end to a memorable day.
